Clark started playing basketball at age five. Influenced by WNBA player Maya Moore and Harrison Barnes, she became a standout player at Dowling Catholic High School. She earned the titles of McDonald's All-American and was highly sought after by college programs for her exceptional play.

Upon committing to the University of Iowa, Clark led NCAA Division I in scoring during her freshman year and followed that by leading in both points and assists as a sophomore. In her junior season, she achieved the rare feat of winning national player of the year awards, propelling Iowa to success.
